There are times when a business sign doesn't need to be complicated to make an impression.

Performance Chiropractic Health and Wellness Center has been serving patients from its location at 1-1500 Dakota St. in Winnipeg for years. The clinic offers chiropractic care along with services including acupuncture, massage therapy and custom orthotics.

For the exterior of the building, Electra Sign Ltd. fabricated and installed custom non-lit channel letters featuring the Performance Chiropractic name and distinctive red and black logo.

A simple approach to exterior signage

The Performance Chiropractic logo has a strong graphic quality, with the red symbol providing a natural focal point against the black lettering. Rather than adding unnecessary elements, the signage lets the existing branding do most of the work.

The dimensional channel letters give the lettering depth and definition, helping it stand out from the textured building façade during the day.

This is one of the advantages of non-illuminated channel letters. When the logo, colour contrast, scale and placement are working together, a sign can have plenty of presence without needing to be illuminated.

Reflecting the business

Performance Chiropractic describes its approach around Koren Specific Technique, a form of chiropractic care that the clinic says uses gentle, specific corrections rather than twisting, turning or traditional joint cracking.

The clinic also provides acupuncture, massage therapy and custom orthotics, giving the business a broader health and wellness focus.

For a business like this, exterior signage is more than simply displaying a name. It is one of the first things patients see when they arrive and helps establish a clear connection between the business and its location.

A good fit for 1500 Dakota Street

The finished Performance Chiropractic signage is a relatively straightforward project, but that's part of what makes it work. The red and black branding is easy to recognize, the dimensional letters add visual interest, and the overall installation fits comfortably with the building's exterior.

Bass Pro Shops Pylon Signage in Winnipeg

Some Winnipeg businesses are familiar because of their location long before you think about their name. The Bass Pro Shops location at 580 Sterling Lyon Parkway is one of those places.

Previously operating as Cabela’s, the location is now home to Bass Pro Shops, bringing a familiar outdoor retail destination under a new name and identity. Bass Pro Shops describes the Winnipeg store as a destination for outdoor gear and experiences, with products for fishing, hunting, camping and other outdoor activities.

As part of the change, Electra Sign Ltd. fabricated and installed the illuminated pylon signage at the property. The main display features the Bass Pro Shops Outpost branding, with illuminated tenant panels positioned below.

Pylon signage has an important job at locations like this. It needs to be visible from the roadway, establish the identity of the property and remain effective throughout the day and into the evening. The illuminated elements are particularly noticeable after dark, giving the sign a strong presence along Sterling Lyon Parkway.

For Electra, this project was also a good example of the role signage plays when an established business changes its identity. The location was already familiar to Winnipeg customers, but the updated signage helps make the Bass Pro Shops name immediately recognizable.

The Winnipeg Bass Pro Shops is located at 580 Sterling Lyon Parkway, and remains part of the Bass Pro Shops and Cabela’s retail network in Canada.

A Winnipeg Original Gets a Sign to Match

Some businesses become part of the landscape of a city. The Original Royal Pizza is one of them.

Family-owned and operated since 1975, Royal Pizza has built a long-standing following in Winnipeg with handmade pizza, its original dough and signature sauce recipes. The restaurant's River Park South location at 1500 Dakota Street offers takeout, delivery, full-service dining and live local musical entertainment.

For this project, Electra Sign Ltd. fabricated and installed custom non-lit channel letters for the exterior of The Original Royal Pizza.

The dimensional lettering was designed to give the restaurant's established identity a strong presence on the building while working naturally with the existing architecture. Non-lit channel letters also provide a clean, dimensional appearance during the day without relying on illumination.

Keeping a Familiar Name Familiar

One of the interesting things about signage projects for long-established businesses is that the brand already has plenty of history behind it.

Royal Pizza isn't trying to look like a brand-new restaurant. The goal is to maintain the character people recognize while making sure the business is clearly identified from the street.

That's where dimensional channel letters can work particularly well. The individual letters create depth, shadows and definition against the building facade, giving a relatively straightforward sign more visual character.

And in this case, there is plenty of character behind the name.

Royal Pizza continues to make its pizzas using its original dough and sauce recipes, along with fresh local ingredients. Their current menu includes everything from the Royal Special, created in 1975, to Mediterranean, Greek, Veggie Lovers and other favourites.

A Small Part of a Long Winnipeg Story

We enjoy projects like this because the finished sign is only one part of the story.

The Original Royal Pizza has been serving Winnipeg for more than five decades. Our role was simply to fabricate and install signage that fits comfortably into that story and gives the restaurant a strong presence at its Dakota Street location.

The sign may be newer, but the name on it has been around for a long time.
